Preview of a brand new track by the fabulous Odd Year, collaborating with The Reverb Junkie - “Can’t Make You Want Me”
Just got back from a preview screening of Pariah…
I’ve been wanting to see this film since last year(?) when it hit Sundance and was picked up for distribution.
I gotta say although not perfect (one or two very minor craft issues) this is one strong and fucking good piece of film making and a new take on the (more so) coming-of-age/(than) coming-out story.
I strongly urge you to check it out when in opens in NY, LA, and SF on the 28th. If you can go, go opening weekend! A strong open will increase the chances of wider distribution across the country (not just select cities) as well as show that films by women (esp. of color) and featuring women (again of color) as leads can make money, which unfortunately is the main factor in funding projects.
This is definitely a promising start for Dee Rees, the director. Me and a probably a billion other film snobs and reviewers are looking forward to what she’ll be able to accomplish next - especially backed with a writer/director deal with Focus Features.
God knows we need more women, POC, and queers making films!I really hope they pick this up for redistribution. If I have to pick it up on DVD, then so be it. But I don’t wanna wait that long :(
