Blinky “It’s Gonna Be Always” (1969, Unreleased. From Cellarful of Motown Volume 4, 2010)

By the late 1960s, Motown had all but ignored the vast well of female singing talent it had amassed in its first decade of life. In the dust of Diana Ross preparing to leave The Supremes, and Gladys Knight being more persistent than the strongest roach, were dozens of singers looking for a little time in the Sun.

One of the most criminally neglected was Sondra “Blinky” Williams, a be-fro’d bottle of brio of the Candy Stanton variety that only had a handful of singles solo and with Edwin Starr to her name. Here we have what would have been an obvious hit single for her had she not been completely lost in the shuffle.
